Dear Ann,
My name is Dan Esposito, and I’m writing to offer my services to the Carl Sagan Foundation. I am a web developer (scientist in heart and mind) and would like to donate my time to revamp CarlSaganFoundation.com . With an easy to use site, the foundation will be able to reach more people and generate more donations. In addition to web design, I can setup the foundation with an online advertising grant of up to $10,000 per month.
You and Carl Sagan have inspired me throughout my life, and my most recent viewing of the Cosmos has inspired me again to begin work on reigniting the public’s passion for space exploration.
The first time I watched the Cosmos was on someone’s homemade VHS when I was a little kid, and Sagan’s passion for knowledge was exciting. This was an especially critical viewing as it was shortly after I became atheist at a very young age. Not Knowing anyone else who shared my view, it was reassuring to see the beauty and complexity of the universe presented in celebration of the universe itself. The second time it had inspired me was when I was in college – the combination of Philosophy Club and the Cosmos pushed me into Nanotechnology. That led to some amazing experiences like representing the US in Singapore with three MIT students at the International Symposium for Nanotechnology and winning the mirco-manipulator competition. I then got my first career job as a research material scientist at NanoLab where I got to do some interesting research and development with Carbon Nanotube synthesis, NEMS and electronics.
Fast foward a few years, I wound up having tomove to a city lacking in science oppurtunities and took up my side business of web development and marketing fulltime. Thankfully, on a YouTube stumble one day, I came across the entire Cosmos Serires which rekindled my passion for science and exploring the large and small of the universe.
Recently, I heard you may be working on a new Cosmos series which is wonderful. I am sure you are more than busy, but I would love to talk with you about the foundation’s mission and how I can help.
